QUALITY
AND QUANTITY OF PRODUCTION BIOETHANOL Sweet Sorghum PLANT
VARIETIES
CTY33 AND NUMBU OF LABORATORY SCALE.
Abstract
Sweet sorghum has
been considered stock for producing good bioethanol.
However, information
on the growth and accumulation of sugar fermentation of sweet
sorghum in Indonesia
is very limited. This study aims to evaluate the potential of sweet
sorghum as source of
bioethanol. The purpose of this study aimed to i) determine levels of
sugar sucrose content
(brix) Nira Sweet sorghum varieties and Numbu CTY33, ii)
determine the effect
of the concentration and type of yeast, and fermentation duration
varieties CTY33 age
80 days to the quality and quantity of bioethanol, and iii) to know
influence of plant
age, the concentration of yeast, and fermentation duration varieties
Numbu age 70.80 and
90 days on the quality and quantity of bioethanol. Research
methods. There are
several stages in the manufacture of bioethanol, namely stage roll
crusher (take the sap
from the stem sorghum), then performed the stage fermentation of
sucrose into ethanol
by fermentation time 2, 3, 4, and 5 days. For the purification of
ethanol distillation
process is done with the temperature used is 700C.Sweet sorghum
varieties and Numbu
CTY33. Sap obtained from fermented sorghum stem with three
treatment factors, ie
factors plant age (70.80 and 90 days) for Numbu varieties, and 80 days
for CTY33 var. For
CTY33 varieties, the type of fermentor used was NKL and Fermipan,
while Varietas Numbu
used fermipan. Long fermentation time is 2 and 3 days for CTY33,
4 and 5 days for
Numbu varieties. Dose fermenter used at 0.25%, 50% and 0.75% for the
varieties CTY33 and
dose 0.50% and 0.75% for the varieties Numbu. Analysis of
statistical data used
is simple and Multi variat (SPSS). Parameters to be measured is the
amount of sugar
content in juice (Brix), the number of sap obtained (ml), the quantity of
ethanol (ml) of
distilled, and the quality of ethanol (%) by HPLC. This type of yeast is best
for the varieties CTY
fermipan age 80 days with the quantity and quality of bioethanol
each 75ml and 9%. The
best quantity of ethanol had a concentration of 0.75% with the
results of 73 ml and
11% quality, and long time best 3 days of fermentation, and the results
obtained by the quantity
and quality of each 77ml of ethanol and 10%. Results of analysis
Numbu varieties, the
best concentration was 0.75% age 80 days, ethanol yield quantity and
quality respectively
63,58 ml and 5,92%. The best harvest age 80 days, with the results for
the quantity of 63,50
ml of ethanol, and the quality of 6.95%. Long time best 5 days of
fermentation with the
results for the quantity of 64,50 ml of ethanol and 6% for the quality
of ethanol.
Conclusion The age of the plant, the concentration of yeast, yeast type, and
length of
fermentation affect the quantity and quality of Bioethanol. To manufacture the
best bioethanol age
80 days, 0.75% yeast concentration, type of yeast fermipan, and long
fermentation time of
3 days for varieties CTY33 and 5 days for Numbu var.age 80 days,
0.75% yeast
concentration, type of yeast fermipan, and long fermentation time of 3 days
for
varieties CTY33 and 5 days for Numbu varietas.
